How to Identify Termites
Wood Damage
Termites love to eat from the inside out, which can hide the termite damage. Termites often eat around the wood grain, leaving a very distinctive pattern. This can be a sure sign that a pest control pro is needed.
Termite Swarmers
Mature colonies produce termite swarmers. These swarmers strike out on their own to form new termite colonies.
Discarded Wings
After swarming termites take flight they shed their wings. You may not have seen the termite swarm, but the shed wings are a sure sign a swarm took place.
Mud Tubes
Underground termites, known as subterranean termites, build shelter tubes out of mud. These mud tubes serve as a bridge between their colony and the wood they are feasting on in you home.
Termite Droppings
Drywood termites often leave droppings that can tip you off to their presence. If this is the case, it may be time to call a pest control service. If you find a pile of droppings, it could mean any wood above is inhabited by termites.
